HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!
YEAR OF TIGER RAWR.
my sister's zodiac, i'll leave it to you to decide if its my older or younger sister. :)
Went to Chinatown today. There were a LOT of people. No kidding, normally chinatown is pretty crowded but today it was a complete fire hazard...but outdoors.
Luckily, we had clear skies and "warm" (35︒F) weather. it was beautiful...but slushy snow remained.

They had a small festival in a park with stands giving away free food and also some performances. It was mostly Chinese opera singers and new year songs. We came late so we only got fortune cookies. Like I said there were so many people, we couldn't even go inside the park. We went in by "illegal" means... There was a snow hill at the corner of the park so we climbed over the fence and slid down to the park. Hahaha~

It was warmer than the past few days, but it was still cold nonetheless. We went to eat dimsum at a nearby restaurant. It wasn't the best, but was still good and we were hungry. The ones shown are buns with a creamy sweet, egg filling.

After that, we stopped by Quickly's for bubble tea. And we were lucky to catch lions dancing at the doorway. Every year, there are lion dance groups that go around the streets and visit stores. They perform dances and play loud (loud enough that you can feel it through your heart) drums to 'drive away evil spirits and wish them good business'.

Plenty of confetti to play with. I feel bad for the sanitation department this week....:(

And for people in nyc, there will be another larger parade going down the streets of Chinatown next Sunday. :) more info here

Chinese New Year in NY, Chinatown looks just like Melbourne's. Just did Chinatown yesterday and the crowd was great (Y)
