At the New World Mall @ Flushing - they have a huge food court, most popular were straight up, authentic Chinese food like hand-pulled noodles from Lanzhou and the Xi'an spices, and the horrendously Shichuan spicy hot pots.
(in process of making the real thing)
We went to the Lanzhou Hand Pulled Noodles."In the Lanzhou style, the dough is worked with aggressively. It is pulled in straight, quick, tugs with no twisting or waving. Some pullers regularly slam the noodle (heck yea I heard the loud thuds) against their prep boards to ensure even stretching and uniform thickness. Flour is sometimes used to dust the strands and prevent sticking." - wikipediaI ordered the lamb meat and my friend got the beef tendon. The main were the noodles - chewy and not soggy. But they didn't leave out the quality of the meat, it was well marinated and soft. However, the soup I'm sure had a bit of msg. Total of $6.
I can never get enough noodles, so after a while we arrived at Assi Plaza on the outskirts of Flushing.
I remembered years ago I had their seafood noodles and it was heavenly! But to my dismay this time was not what I expected. The vegetables were overcooked and not that much seafood...just a bunch of (previously preserved) oysters. One thing they kept were the great texture of the noodles - chewy and really leaves you smacking your lips.
