(1) My sister has been into baking cakes lately. She should move onto something more such as a tiramisu or red velvet kthxbai.

“Watching them pull the sugar is observing true artists at work – it’s like watching a magician perform. The only thing more amazing than seeing the candy made is how it tastes. The whole experience is unlike any other dessert vendor I’ve come across in New York.” - Vendy Awards
There's a new cart in (China)town. It's not another rice noodle and fish ball stand, it's selling candies!
I was very happy to be able to snatch such a detailed photo of the woman stretching out this dragon beard candy.
They were choosen as dessert finalists in the Vendy Awards this September. This dessert is common in China/HongKong and probably all over Asia, but they've recently bought it over to the States.
The candy is sugar that is heated to a gooey consistency. Then it's being pulled and stretched over and over and over again (and again) to achieve fine strands that look like white hairs on a grandpa that hasn't gone bald yet (just trying to be realistic, have you seen a dragon's beard?). Then they wrap chopped peanuts and coconut inside. They were selling 6 of these for $3.

Sorry to have made you grimace over my description. But the taste was interesting. The outside is like cotton candy and inside is crunchy. Lightly sweet and fun to eat. But a bit pricey on the streets of cheap eats.
