Last weekend was my birthday, and I decided to spend the day alone.
I've recently hit a milestone in my life. A lot has shifted and a lot has been thrown my way. It's been overwhelming and I feel like my life is flying by. It was only last weekend that I finally got to unwind and think through things.
And this is why I enjoy meals alone. In a restaurant. Sitting by myself.
I choose Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-422360547863455391.post-342946931177485662013-08-06T23:25:00.001-04:002013-08-06T23:28:22.218-04:00What's been going on?
I've been neglecting this blog, not sure how long I will be keeping it alive :(
Nevertheless, I've been busy being a foodie:
Trying to make banana pudding ever since I tasted heaven at Magnolia Bakery.
Korean night at Pocha32 - their Korean pancake and dukbokki (spicy rice cake) never disappoint.
And you can't forget their watermelon soju.

Mother's day was my first time planning and making a full-course meal (and of course for Mom). Some dishes needed improvements and better timing but everything turned out edible and not bad!
Chilled tofu with sweet soy sauce - has easily become one of my favorite dishes!
Salmon tartare with lemon and ginger juice - much harder than I thought

Well, this is rare, I've been having a sweet tooth lately. Several delicious stops I made in the past few weeks:
City Bakery @ 3 W 18th Street
Their chocolatey sweets are really well known and some say out of this world. I had a chocolate melt which I describe as a brownie disguised as a cookie. A little crisp on the outside, and soft, chewy chocolate inside.

Pretty great Middle Eastern food right in Tribeca. Nish Nush has a neat, rustic feel interior and exterior. The encased tables of chickpeas add an extra touch. A very lovely English teahouse located in West Village. Being there reminded me of the United Kingdom...the small (sits only 23 people) and intimate environment, and the quirky decorations of the monarchy past and present. And if you don't think it's authentic enough, the waitresses there are English.
Their menu was, of course, everything English. There were bangers and mash (Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-422360547863455391.post-67407912408454745932013-01-16T15:53:00.002-05:002013-01-16T19:59:16.534-05:00Curried carrot soup for a rainy day

Mochi ice cream for my sister's birthday! It was my first time making mochi and I was nervous that the mochi wouldn't come out right. I bought Mochiko, sweet rice flour, to make it. I mixed a 1:1 ration of water and flour, and half sugar. I looked up a lot of different ways to mix them together, and I went with boiling sugar and water, then turning off the heat to add mochi flour. Had brunch at Therapy Wine Bar with a friend because of a groupon brunch deal we bought. It's located on a quiet street at Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Throughout the whole meal, it was only me and my friend at the place. It being a bar, I'm guessing it's more lively at night.
Started with a salad and a soup. Salad was pretty good, greens with pecans, blue cheese and sliced pears. Ready for the holidays?! Christmas is a huge holiday in the United Kingdom, people start putting up decorations in mid-November. It felt really early to me but I realize they don't celebrate Thanksgiving like Americans do, so Christmas is the next holiday they look forward to.

Took a trip to Windsor Castle, also known as another one of the Queen's homes. This was one of my most expensive trips within the UK. You had to buy a year-long ticket, I doubt I would have the money and time to come back. However, the castle was beautiful. The exterior looked a bit cold, but inside was exquisitely decorated with warm and deep colors. Had a fun weekend trip to Bath! It's a small city not too far from London, it's a tourist attraction because it has the oldest Roman Bath still standing today. This was on my list of foods to try in the UK, it turned out to be my brunch. As well as gave me a food coma during my afternoon lecture.
